Discover Hilton Head & Daufuskie Islands |
|
Here in the Lowcountry, we enjoy a wide variety in habitat. There are
neighborhoods and areas where lively celebration and recreation are the
order of the day, where there’s always something to do and somewhere to
go. There are also more relaxed burroughs, where the hectic pace of the
outside world is all but forgotten, replaced with a casual atmosphere
and a philosophy that demands relaxation. Perhaps the two best examples
of those extremes are Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands.
Hilton Head, founded on the principles of a resort community, offers
ample opportunity for celebration, be it at the world-famous Verizon
Heritage or at any of the festivals that dot the calendar. There are
cultural opportunities from musical events to stage performances and
everything in between. On Daufuskie, however, life slows down a bit.
There’s no shortage of good times to be had on Daufuskie, from golf and
tennis to fine dining, but the lack of a bridge and the laid-back way
in which residents traverse the island by golf carts, tells you that
you’re in a completely different world.

Discover Bluffton & Okatie |
|
Just a few years ago, the land between I-95 and Hilton Head Island
along US-278 was little more than dense forest. Dotted along the way
might be one or two communities, and there was, of course, the
then-sleepy town of Bluffton.
Then, about a decade ago, the area simply exploded. The area’s prime
location, convenient to Savannah, Hilton Head and Beaufort, created the
perfect jumping off point for development.
Now, Bluffton and Okatie are some of the most vibrant and fast-growing
areas in the state. Bluffton has been very careful to balance new
growth with environmental considerations, and it has paid off with an
area rich in cultural opportunities and ample space for those looking
to set down roots.

Just on the other side of the Broad river from the explosive growth of
the Bluffton Okatie area is a quiet area of serene natural splendor.
Beaufort is the crown jewel of this area, a city of rich history and
laid-back Southern charm. Residents of this tranquil southern city
enjoy a waterfront downtown offering river views, an amazing art scene,
fine dining and antique shopping galore. The stunning antebellum
architecture and natural splendor has caught the eye of Hollywood
several times, with such films as The Big Chill, Forrest Gump and The
Prince of Tides being partially filmed at various locations around
Beaufort.
